One thing I learned from years of experience as a professional photographer is that you need to be prepared. Assembling a printed portfolio takes time and effort. Printing large, high-quality photos can also leave a hole in your wallet.

The solution? Build a website or an online photography portfolio. It’s affordable, quick, and easy, especially if you use a photography template.

I’ll be sharing a list of the best photography website templates from different website builders that you can start with. HTML templates will be on this list, too, for those who prefer to launch a portfolio on their own server.

There’s also a short tutorial on how you can create a website for free, so make sure to stick around.

List of my favorite templates for photographers

Here’s a shortlist of the templates you can use for your online portfolio. The first seven are website builder templates, while the second half consists of HTML templates:

  1. Glow Theme by Pixpa: A clean and user-friendly photography website theme. Almost every element is customizable. It has a 15-day free trial.
  2. Photography Template by Zyro: One fully-customizable template that can be turned into a single or multi-page portfolio. It comes with affordable plans, easy to use, and responsive.
  3. Family Photographer Template by Wix: A free multipurpose photography website template. Every element is editable. However, it has a steep learning curve.
  4. Beaumont — Photography Website Template by Squarespace: One multi-page site template that can fit any niche. There are tons of customization options, but it’s only free to use for 14 days.
  5. Cosmo — Full Page Template by SmugMug: A beautiful, timeless, multi-page template to showcase your galleries. However, you only get two weeks of free trial.
  6. Dusk Wedding Photography Theme by Format: It’s perfect for wedding photographers. The theme has rich customization options, but it only has two weeks of free trial and is not so beginner-friendly.
  7. Landscape Photography by Duda: A minimalist website theme for photographers.
  8. Juno — Site Template for Photographers: There are demo sites with clean and elegant designs. It has many customization options, responsive layout, and is retina-ready. Somewhat affordable.
  9. Lydia Photography Portfolio Website Template: For photographers who want a template that has all the necessities of a fully functioning site. Quite affordable for a feature-rich HTML template.
  10. Lens — Free Portfolio Website Template by HTML5UP: The simplest template on the list with only an image slider and sidebar. It’s free to download.
  11. Free Photography Responsive Website Template by Themezy: A free website template that has premium features. Perfect for wedding or couples photography services.
  12. Photographer Portfolio Responsive Website Template: One comprehensive photography website template that has everything you need, but it’s a bit pricey.
  13. John Doe — Photography HTML Website Template: A single-page online resume/CV for photographers. However, it’s pretty expensive.
  14. Elit — One-Page CC Photography Website Template: It’s free, yet has enough features to build an engaging and responsive photography portfolio.

Website builder templates for photographers

If you’re new to web design and development, you might want to start with a website builder to create your portfolio. Keep in mind that there are a number of them on the market.

They each bring different template designs, customization options, and various price plans. Pick one that caters to your needs.

So, to help you choose, I’ve compiled a list of photography website templates from a number of website builders.

1. Glow Theme by Pixpa

Glow is a photography website template that has an uncluttered, minimalist design. Almost every element is customizable — fonts, colors, texts, buttons, and links.

You can also showcase your photo gallery in various layouts — full image, dynamic or fixed grid, and block pattern. There are also some image display options. Whichever you choose, the design is adaptive to any screen size.

Adding a store page to your site is also possible. Very useful if you decide to start selling digital prints.

Glow’s additional features are:

  • Sticky navbar and dropdown menu option
  • Logo and favicon uploader
  • Eight different header layouts
  • Instagram integration
  • Contact form
  • Blog post share option

You will only get a 15 days free trial with Pixpa. What’s more, you’ll also have to pay at least $7/month billed yearly to keep using the template. It’s still quite affordable, looking at the features and how you can expand your portfolio to an online store.

2. Photography Template by Zyro

If you’re looking for a highly customizable template but has a very easy to use interface, Photography by Zyro is your solution. Though it’s currently a single-page website, you can add pages to make a multi-page portfolio.

It has a clean, minimalist design that draws focus to the beautifully taken shots. You can keep it as is, or personalize it completely to fit your brand. Even so, the website will still look stunning on different size screens.

The rest of its selling points are:

  • Drag-and-drop
  • Intuitive grid system
  • Colors and fonts options
  • Elements — texts, images, videos, buttons, Google Map, and social icons
  • Sticky header option
  • SEO settings for images and pages

You can use this template for $1.99/month. It’s a very affordable choice seeing how much you can do with the template.

3. Family Photographer Template by Wix

This Wix photography website template is perfect for those who seek creative freedom. Every element can be adjusted, including the layout, style, and design. So even though this template is targeted for family photographers, it can still be used for any niche.

Due to the tons of options, the learning curve can be a bit steep and it might take a while to familiarize yourself with the interface. However, there’s the Editor Help Center and video tutorials to get you started.

What’s great is that you can set up an online store or a membership page. The possibilities of what you want to do with the template are endless.

The rest of its features are:

  • Built-in photo studio and video maker
  • Apps integration — Instagram feed, testimonials, bookings, contact forms, and more
  • Support social media icons
  • Search engine optimized and responsive

Wix offers a free plan that comes with a subdomain plus limited storage and bandwidth. If you want to connect a custom domain, you’ll have to pay $14/month for the most basic plan.

4. Beaumont — Photography Website Template by Squarespace

The Beaumont template is suitable for multi-page photography websites. Plus, it’s quite easy to set up. If you’re a new Squarespace user, there will be an assistant wizard to help you get started.

It has a simple, clean, and minimalist design that brings a professional look to your site. The template is customizable, so you can personalize it even more to match your brand. Uploading your own logo is also possible.

There are different design options for colors, typography, call to action buttons, and more. By using this template, you can upgrade your site to an online shop as well. A cart icon can even be added to the navigation menu.

Beaumont’s other selling points are:

  • Customizable premade page sections — headlines, gallery, text, contact, products, and so on
  • Five header design options
  • 19 different footer layouts to choose from
  • Social media icons
  • Mobile and SEO-friendly

Squarespace has a free trial for 14 days. If you want to continue using this template, you need to upgrade to a premium plan, which will cost you at least $12/month. Just like Format, it’s on the pricier side compared to other website builders on this list.

5. Cosmo — Full Page Template by SmugMug

Cosmo is a timeless, aesthetic, multi-page photography website template. The minimalist design helps draw the focus on the content and images. Plus, the homepage displays different galleries as thumbnails for easy navigation.

The block editor and drag-and-drop feature are used to customize this template. However, it may take you some time to get used to the user interface and start moving things around. There also are content blocks for galleries, photos, video, navigation, text, and many more.

Other features that stand out are:

  • Customizable layout and background
  • Various color schemes
  • Fixed sidebar and a search option
  • Logo uploader
  • Social media icons
  • Responsive design

Like some of the website builders here, you will only get a 14-day free trial. You can subscribe to the Basic plan for $7/month if you decide to carry on with Cosmo.

6. Dusk Wedding Photography Theme by Format

One perfect template for wedding photographers is Dusk. It has a clean, elegant design that gives off that dreamy professional look.

The dashboard and block editor may take time to get used to, but there’s a checklist to help you with the process of building and launching your website.

There are premade sections for text, images, media, forms, and dividers that you can use and customize. Page templates are also available for the About, Contact, Resume, Story, and Title page. Plus, your gallery can be displayed as either a slideshow, grid, or vertical layout.

You can include a blog to share and connect with your clients. Or, set up an online store to sell products and services as well.

Other features of Dusk are:

  • Logo and favicon uploader
  • Colors and typography options
  • Search engine optimization settings for pages
• Social network and sharing options
  • Mobile-friendly

This template is free to use for 14 days only. You can upgrade to the Pro plan at $12/month if you want to resume using it, which can be a bit expensive.

7. Landscape Photography by Duda

Landscape Photography is a minimalist website template for photographers. The simple and crisp design will make visitors focus on your photos. It’s easy to use and edit as well.

Some of its selling points are:

  • A multi-page website template
  • Full-width header image slider
  • Social icons
  • An integrated form on the Contact page

To use this template, you’ll have to choose one of Duda’s plan that starts at $14/month.

Responsive HTML photography website templates

If you’re familiar with web development and want a challenge, then why not use an HTML template for your photography website? You will get the creative freedom to personalize it however you want.

That said, technical knowledge is required as you will have to edit the files if you want to customize the design. You can use a code or visual editor software to do so. Other than that, you will need to get a custom domain and find a web host to store and publish your site.

Those who don’t have the time and skills to go through the said process — like me — will have to hire a developer for help. Plus, it can be costly, so make sure that you have the budget.

This list below contains free and paid templates. Now without further ado, let’s get into it.

8. Juno — Site Template for Photographers

Juno is one of the best photography website templates, as it’s very comprehensive. It comes with 12 different demos that you can choose and start with. They all have clean and elegant designs, giving your portfolio a professional look.

The rich customization options give unlimited combinations of designs. What’s more, Juno is responsive and retina-ready, so your site and photos will still look stunning when accessed on different devices.

It’s other selling points are:

  • Multi or single-page
  • 11 color schemes and two different sets of icons
  • Header and slider options
  • Supports parallax image and video
  • Various portfolio and blog layouts
  • Instagram feed integration
  • The source code is SEO optimized

You can get a regular license for $19. With it, you will get future updates and six months of support. If you want to extend support up to a year, there’s an additional cost of $5.63.

With the number of features in the package, plus how limitless you can design your site, Juno is worth the buy.

9. Lydia Photography Portfolio Website Template

For photographers who want to showcase their portfolio beautifully, you might want to consider using Lydia. This template has over 30 premade HTML5 pages and various layout options. You will just need to edit the content and upload your pictures.

With Lydia, you’re given a lot of different styles and designs. The homepage itself has eight different layouts, from ajax gallery, single-page, slide portfolio, to grid blog and magazine. You also get to choose from 11 color schemes, and three types of headers.

The portfolio section is filterable, and you can even display it in nine different styles. Furthermore, the template is also integrated with Mailchimp and Google Maps.

Lydia’s other features are:

  • Support parallax image and video
  • Three premium scripts are included — Cube Portfolio, Revolution Slider, Vanilla Form
  • Instagram and Flickr feed integration
  • Two icon sets
  • Widgets for footer
  • Mobile and SEO-friendly, plus retina-ready

Just like Juno, the regular license for Lydia costs $19 with future updates and six months of support. Plus, the additional $5.63 to extend the support for up to 12 months.

Lydia is also a great alternative if you’re looking for an HTML template that comes with a lot of functionality.

10. Lens — Free Portfolio Website Template by HTML5UP

If you prefer a very simple photography portfolio, then Lens is for you. Believe it or not, the template only consists of a full-width image slider and a sidebar that shows a list of your photos. Visitors can go through the list, click on a particular picture, and it’ll be displayed on the slider.

You can, however, add your name and description of yourself as a photographer on the sidebar. There’s also space at the bottom-left corner of the slider where you can put the title and short explanation of your photos.

This template also comes with:

  • Icons for social media links and email address
  • A responsive design

Lens is perfect for those who want to showcase their photos without having to manage a complex site. Plus, it doesn’t cost a dime to download it.

11. Free Photography Responsive Website Template by Themezy

Themezy also has a responsive template for a photography website. The design is straightforward, and the color shades give off a romantic feel, making it perfect for a wedding or couples photography portfolio.

There are five premade pages — About, Portfolio, Resume, Blog, and Contacts that you can freely customize. It has a header image slider where you can display your best work as well.

For easy navigation, there’s a sticky navbar, a “back to top” button, and calls to action. It even has a CSS hover animation that brings some dynamics to the template.

The rest of its features are:

  • Image carousel
  • Social media icons
  • Google Maps and contact form integration
  • Newsletter subscription

Clearly, this template is free for you to use. Plus, I think it’s a great deal looking at how much you can do with it. Definitely worth the try.

12. Photographer Portfolio Responsive Website Template

This template is an example of a comprehensive photography website. It comes with multiple pages — Home, About, Service, Works, Blog, and Contact, which you can customize. There’s also a header image slider that you can use to display your best photos.

Visitors will also focus on your content as the template has an elegant, clean design. The parallax scrolling and hover animations bring a change of scenery as they scroll through your site. What’s more, people can access your portfolio just fine on their mobile devices.

Some of its other selling points are:

  • Dropdown menu
  • Google Maps and contact form integration
  • A set of icons
  • “Back to top” button

To use this template for your photography website, you will need to pay $69. It’s on the expensive side, so I recommend you to look elsewhere unless you have the budget.

13. John Doe — Photography HTML Website Template

John Doe is an online resume/CV template for photographers, and it has everything a professional portfolio needs. What’s more, its single-page website is clean and has a crisp design.

There are around 10 ready-made sections, such as the About section, Skills, and Experiences with a skill bar, Services, Price, Blog, and more. The fixed left sidebar is where you add a profile picture and links to your social media accounts.

The Contact section also supports a contact form and map so that clients can reach you easily.

Additional features of this template are:

  • Video integration
  • Filterable portfolio section
  • Hamburger navigation menu
  • “Back to Top” button
  • Adaptive to any screen size

This template costs $72 for one site, which is quite pricey, especially for those who are just starting out. If you have the budget, feel free to use it. But if you don’t, there are other affordable options on this list.

14. Elit — One-Page CC Photography Website Template

Another single-page HTML photography website template that you can use is Elit. It has a dark, smooth, and organized design. There’s also a sticky navigation bar on the left where you can add social media icons linking to your accounts.

The template is user-friendly and engaging as well due to the scrolling animations. Visitors would want to stay and scroll through your content.

Other than that, the layout is also mobile-friendly. You don’t have to worry about having a messy site when people access it on different devices.

The rest of Elit’s selling points are:

  • Parallax header
  • Testimonial slider
  • Blog section
  • A usable form on the Contact section

To get the regular license of this template, you must pay for $19. Nevertheless, the license will only last for a year.

How to create a photography website for a low-cost

If you don’t have a big budget or any technical skills whatsoever, you can still build and launch a photography website at a cheap price. There’s also no complicated user interface.

Yup, it’s by using the Zyro Website Builder.

Now let me guide you through the process:

  1. Click the Join Zyro button, sign up with your email, and then pick one of its plans.
  2. Scroll down and hover on the Photography template, and select Start Building.
  3. Customize and design your portfolio — edit texts, upload images, add elements, and change colors.
  4. Preview the changes.
  5. Press Publish website, enter a domain name and click Continue to launch your portfolio.

Zyro uses the drag-and-drop feature with a grid system, making it easy and quick to align different elements on the page.

The website builder also provides several tools to help you with the process. There’s an AI writer that can generate content based on your niche or a couple of sentences. The Business Name Generator and Logo Maker are handy for brand building as well.

My verdict

As a professional photographer, having an online portfolio is a necessity, especially if you’re looking for new clients and planning to grow your business. You won’t have to start from scratch as there are tons of website templates that you can use.

For beginners, you can choose templates from website builders, and they are easy to customize. My personal favorite would be Zyro with its Photography template. It’s the most affordable, quick to set up, and you’re given various features, plus creative freedom.

If you’re familiar with web development and have coding skills, then the Juno HTML template is worth your money. The different demos and rich customization options bring you limitless possibilities.

Building a photography website can be a lot of fun. So don’t be afraid to start.

If you click affiliate links in my post and buy a service, I might receive a small commission.
